TASMANIA Part 1

C’est le moment de vous donner quelques nouvelles de notre périple en Tasmanie.
Nous avons pris le bateau mardi dernier pour une traversée de 10 heures qui s’est très bien passée, notamment grâce à Trent, le fils de Russell qui nous a dégoté une place en cabine privilégié de part son pote qui pilote le bateau. Bref encore une fois on a été gaté!
That’s time to give you guys some news and an idea of what our 2weeks trip in Tasmania looks like. We went onboard last Tuesday for a 10 hours cruise which went smoothly, notably thanks to Trent, Russell’s son who organized a cabin for us with one of his mate who works on the boat. We’ve been spoiled again.




Dés nos 1ers pas en Terre Tasmanie, on sent la différence ! Les paysages sont purs et intactes, les vaches ont le poil brillant et généreux, les gens sont moins stressés, les moutons se comptent par millier et le soleil nous accueille mais on met plutôt ça sur le compte de la chance !
Since our first step in Tasmania, we can feel the difference! The scenery is purely beautiful and wild, cows have shiny and fluffy hair, people seems to go with the flow, thousands of sheeps around and the sun welcomes us but we assume this is more of luck than anything else.



On a commencé notre tour par une balade dans Deloraine et ses statues assez étonnantes, pour ensuite se diriger vers the « great lake ». On est pas mal monté en altitude, assez pour rencontrer les premières plaques de neige. Les vues autour du lac étaient magnifiques.
On descend de quelques mètres d’altitude pour se retrouver dans le bush et les cascades de Liffey.
We started with a stroll in Deloraine and its astonishing statues to carry on towards the “Great Lake”. We’ve climbed a fair bit of hills, actually enough to pass by some chunks of snow. The different lookouts around the Lake were breathtaking. We then drove downhill a little bit to meet the bush and the Liffey Falls.






Notre prochaine destination est Launceston, 2 ème plus grande ville de Tasmanie. La bas nous avons visité « the Cataract Gorge » depuis un télésiège (soit disant le plus long du monde …). Le domaine proposait plusieurs balades et points de vue dans les gorges. On a rencontré un possum mangeur de chips pas très discret ! Il a même voulu mangé les noix de Cédric !
Our next destination is Launceston, 2nd largest city of Tasmania. We visited the “Cataract Gorge” hanging on a chairlift (said as being the “longest in the world”…) The domain offered several strolls and lookouts of the gorge. We met a possum addicted to crisps and he was not really discreet. He even wanted to chew on Cedric’s nuts!






On continue notre périple avec une randonnée dans le bush qui nous mène à la plus grande cascade de Tasmanie, « St Columba falls » 90m de hauteur, impressionnant !
We then keep cruising along and that brings us to the highest waterfalls of Tassie, “St Columba falls” and its 90 meters height : Impressive!




Nous voila maintenant sur la route pour la côte Est avec pour ligne de mire « the bay of fires ». Cette baie a été classée une des plus belle au monde ! Surement grâce à l’eau turquoise, le sable blanc et les rochers rougeâtres. On a l’impression d’être seuls au monde, naufragés et heureux de l’être pour quelques temps !!
We’re now heading East to reach the “Bay of Fires”. This bay is ranked as one of the nicest in the World! Probably thanks to the colour blue turquoise of the water, the whiteness of the sand and the rocks coloured pink & red. We feel like we are alone in the world, shipwrecked and happy to be for a couple of hours!




On longe la côte Est qui mène à Tasman Peninsula connut pour être un centre pénitencier où étaient envoyés principalement les Anglais et Irlandais pour purger leur peine dans la prison de Port Arthur qui s’avère être un village pénitencier créé par les forçats eux mêmes (poste, jardins, hôpital, centre d’éducation …).
La péninsule offre d’autres merveilles comme eaglehawk neck reconnue pour être le passage d’évasions pour les audacieux prisonniers ou encore les formations rocheuses tout autour du site.
We were then driving alongside the East coast leading us to the Tasman Peninsula known as a tough penitentiary in which mainly English and Irish convicts were deported to serve their sentence in Port Arthur which is proved as being built by the convicts themselves (post office, gardens, hospital, education centre…).
The Peninsula also revealed other beauties like “Eaglehawk Neck” famous for being the gateway to freedom and evasions for the daring prisoners or else, the spectacular gorges and caves.






Nous voilà maintenant arrivés à Hobart, capitale de la Tasmanie. On s’étonne du changement de paysage avec le mont Wellington qui surplombe toute la ville et son port. Sa proximité et son envergure impose le respect !!!
Salamanca Market est le marché incontournable du Samedi à Hobart, ou tous les locaux étalent leurs produits artisanaux. On se régale en profitant des dégustations par ci par là tout ça dans une ambiance décontractée et rythmée par les musiques Sud Américaines.
We now arrived in Hobart, capital of Tasmania. We are amazed to see 2 different sceneries stuck together with the Mount Wellington overlooking the town and its harbour. Its proximity and amplitude impose respect.
Salamanca Market is the place to be on Saturdays in Hobart, where you’ll find every local product sold by the producer themselves. We’re enjoying the free tasting here and there in a peaceful atmosphere and a bit of South American music as a background.






Aujourd’hui Lundi, on s’est fait la descente du Mont Wellington en VTT, c’était génial. Sensations garanties avec des parcours route et forêt avec vue plongeante sur Hobart et alentours. Par temps clair on voit le tiers de la Tasmanie depuis le sommet !
Today Monday, we’ve done the descent of the Mount Wellington by bike: WICKED!
Big sensations guaranteed with a mix road and off-road sections with an overview of Hobart city and suburbs. When the sky’s clear, we can see the third of Tasmania from the summit!


Il nous reste 1 semaine pour profiter de la partie Ouest de l’île et ses National Parks propice à la rando !
